The resin repair process
The procedure involves vacuuming air from the damaged area and injecting a clear, UV-cured resin that bonds with the fractured glass at the molecular level. Curing is completed within minutes using a heat lamp. Once finished, the chip is approximately 80 to 90 percent optically restored and, more importantly, sealed against moisture intrusion and stress propagation, preventing further spreading.
Damage suitable for repair
Bullseyes, star breaks, and combination chips up to approximately the size of a toonie are ideal candidates for repair. Single cracks under six inches are also generally repairable. Damage located within the driver's primary line of sight, damage that has reached the edge of the glass, or damage contaminated with dirt or wax typically requires replacement, as repairs in these conditions may fail and produce optical distortion where visibility is most critical.
Insurance coverage for repairs
Comprehensive insurance policies in Ontario almost universally waive the deductible for chip repairs. By addressing damage early, insurers avoid the higher cost of full windshield replacement. We bill the claim directly, allowing most customers to complete the repair with no out-of-pocket expense and no administrative paperwork.
If the chip remains smaller than a toonie, we recommend scheduling service today. A approaching cold front can convert a brief repair into a full replacement.
